Dr. Eran Elhaik – Founder, Researcher & Director
Dr. Elhaik is the co-owner and CEO of Anath Genomic Consultants AB.
Dr. Elhaik is a leading Israeli geneticists and American Bioinformaticians, one of the most noted alumni of the University of Houston and Sheffield University. Dr. Elhaik received his PhD in Molecular Evolution at the University of Houston, Texas. He did his two post-doctorate studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He is currently an Associate Professor of population, medical, and evolutionary genomics at Lund University, Sweden. He is a scholar, explorer, and entrepreneur.
Dr. Elhaik is passionate about Paleogenomics, Medicine, History, Mythology, and Anthropology and has participated in many archeological excavations where he collected ancient DNA samples.
Dr. Elhaik is a renowned scientist specializing in genetic genealogy and population genetics. He has been the recipient of the most prestigious US, UK, European, and Swedish grants to study human origins. He authored/co-authored over 70 studies in evolution, genetics, and medicine that received over 12,000 citations, which puts him in the top 5% of all scientists, with many of his studies ranked the most-read and most-cited papers in their respective journals. He has made many discoveries in ancient DNA research, including the dating of the most ancient Y chromosome (A00), which shed light on the early male lineages of humanity. In a groundbreaking study, he led the discovery of Ancient Ashkenaz, tracing the origins of Ashkenazic Jews to ancient settlements in northeastern Turkey, offering insights into their genetic and historical roots. Dr. Elhaik actively collaborates with African American communities, researching disease biomarkers prevalent in this population and exploring the complex origins of African Americans.
Dr. Elhaik is widely recognized for his work in developing cutting-edge DNA tests and is a world expert in biogeography and inference of ancient migration routes. His works include the design of the GenoChip for the Geographic Project of National Geographic, which helped hundreds of thousands of people discover their past, and the creation of the GPS Origins DNA test for HomeDNA, which pinpoints ancestral locations of one's two ancestors with high precision and helped tens of thousands of people to trace their origins. He also developed the My Origins test series for GenePlaza, helping people uncover detailed aspects of their ancient genetic background that were otherwise lost. In 2024, Dr. Elhaik acquired the Ancient DNA Origins website, which Ancient DNA HubTM is based on, further advancing his mission to provide personalized ancestry solutions based on ancient DNA to everyone.
